STATEMENT OF COMMUNION PRACTICE
The Lord’s Supper is celebrated in this congregation in the confession and glad confidence that, as He says, our Lord gives into our mouths not only bread and wine but His very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another. Our Lord invites to His table those who trust His words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us, that they may show forth His death until He comes.

Because those who eat and drink our Lord’s body and blood unworthily do so to their great harm and because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, and are unable to receive the Sacrament are invited to meditate on God’s Word in the distribution hymns and pray for the day when divisions will have ceased. STRIPPING OF THE ALTAR - 6:30 pm
(The stripping of the altar consists of removing all ornaments, linens, and paraments from the altar. This is an ancient custom of the Church done on Maundy Thursday which points to the humiliation of Jesus at the hands of the soldiers.)

During the stripping of the altar, the congregation will pray the psalms, whole verse by whole verse, as time permits:

(After the stripping of the altar is finished, all may leave in silence. Our service does not really end, but continues with our Good Friday Tre-Ore service tomorrow at 12:15 pm and our Good Friday Tenebrae service tomorrow at 7:30 pm. These services together prepare us for the Easter Vigil, Saturday at 6:30 pm and the joyous celebration of the Resurrection this Sunday; Sunrise service at 6 am followed by our Easter Divine Service at 8:30 am and 10:30 am. Each of these services will be different and we invite you to worship with us often.)

Maundy is from the Latin, mandatum, which means command. The reference is to the Gospel of John 13:34 where Jesus says, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
