GOOD SHEPHERD
NEWS & NOTES
APRIL 11, 2010
WELCOME TO GOOD SHEPHERD: Good Shepherd welcomes you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Large-print worship folders and printed liturgy are available from the ushers. Ushers will also help with hearing assist devices for your audio needs. The cry room is located at the northwest corner of the sanctuary for your convenience. If you have other questions or needs, please stop at the information center. We invite you to stay following the 8 am service for coffee and goodies followed by Sunday School and Bible study. May God richly bless our time together and please come again.
COLOSSIANS BIBLE STUDY: Meet in the fellowship hall following the 8 am service for coffee, juice, goodies and a study of God’s Word. Pastor Poppe will continue with the study of St. Paul’s letter to the Colossians. He pens words of encouragement for this young congregation and also words of warning for these new Christians . . . and for us.
A SUMMARY OF CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE: Pastor Berndt will finish up this series today with the lesson on “The End Times”. This class is a series of lessons outlining what Lutherans believe, teach and confess as it is taken from God’s Word. It can be a review of the basics, a way to find out more about the Lutheran faith, or preparation for membership at Good Shepherd. If you are interested in this class watch the News & Notes for dates for the next session.
SUNDAY SCHOOL TODAY: Students learned today that we, like Thomas, doubt what we cannot see (John 20: 19-31). Through His Spirit, God gives us eyes of faith that we might see Jesus in Word and Sacrament and believe in Him. Discuss with your family times when it was hard to trust and believe in the promises of God. Talk about faith and where it comes from(the Holy Spirit). In your catechism review, study the Third Article of the Apostles’ Creed and its explanation.
LIFELIGHT BIBLE STUDY: The Gospel of John: Part II will continue this week on both Wednesday at 7:30 pm and Thursday at 1 pm. We will then take a break for two weeks because Pastor Berndt will not be here.
LIFE MOMENT: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe” (John 20: 29). That’s us! Blessed with faith and therefore blessed with life eternal and therefore blessed with peace in this life.
PICTORIAL DIRECTORY: If you had your photo taken or submitted a photo for the pictorial directory, your copy is on the table outside the doors in the rear of the sanctuary. Please pick it up and take it with you.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: We are just about 2 months away from VBS on June 7-11. The theme for VBS this year is “Here I Stand” which will focus on the reformation period and with who we are as Christians (What makes a person a Christian?) If you would like to help with teaching, music, snacks, crafts, registration, help in the classroom, etc., please contact Patty Stradley at 783-5400. The first meeting of volunteers will be on Monday, April 12th in the fellowship hall at 7 pm. If you are interested in helping, you are invited to this organizational meeting.
SPECIAL BIRTHDAY: Many Good Shepherd members will remember Marvin & Donna Henning, former G. S. members. On April 17th Marvin will be celebrating his 80th birthday. You are invited to participate in a card shower for this special occasion. Cards and notes can be sent to:

ELECTION TIME REMINDER: The Board of Elders and Church Council would like to remind the members of Good Shepherd that there is a city ordinance (8.22.120) against the placing of any handbill in or upon any vehicle. This is rarely a problem, but people sometimes forget, especially around election time. If you have any questions, please visit with either Pastor Poppe or Pastor Berndt. Thanks!
COMPUTER PROBLEMS: Pastor Berndt has been having a problem with his e-mail. At this time, it is not working to contact him via e-mail. If you have tried and have not received an acknowledgment, this will explain why. Thank you for your patience. If you need to contact him between now and when we solve this problem, please call the church office, leave a message on voice mail, or e-mail info@goodshepherdlincoln.org.
ATTENTION SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS: You are appreciated! If you teach Sunday School at Good Shepherd, we would like to host a short luncheon in your honor today, April 11 after the 10:30 service. Please make plans to stay and enjoy a meal in appreciation of all the work you do. We will eat, relax, and have a short devotion. Praise the Lord for the work that you do to further His Kingdom!
THANK YOU: Thanks to everyone who volunteered in some way to assist with the activities and services of the Lenten/Easter season. So many people were involved in preparing and serving food, providing special music, folding bulletins, ushering, providing Easter lilies, helping with the Easter Egg Hunt, etc. and we appreciate every one of you.
