News & Notes - September 4, 2011Posted by Clint Poppe on 10/06/2011GOOD SHEPHERD WELCOME TO GOOD SHEPHERD: Good Shepherd welcomes you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Large-print worship folders and printed liturgy are available from the ushers. Ushers will also help with hearing assist devices for your audio needs. The cry room is located at the northwest corner of the sanctuary for your convenience. If you have other questions or needs, please stop at the information center. We invite you to stay following the 8 am service for coffee and goodies followed by Sunday School and Bible study. May God richly bless our time together and please come again. BIBLE STUDY TODAY: Come to the fellowship hall following the 8 am service today for coffee, juice, goodies and the study of God’s Word. Pastor Poppe continues with the study of Genesis, chapters 1-11 with the account of the receding of the flood waters beginning in chapter 8. LIFE MOMENT: “Maybe you’ve had an abortion and don’t think that God can ever forgive you. You’re wrong. Jesus suffered on the cross for ALL your sins and ALL my sins. Pray to the Lord and ask for His forgiveness (Colossians 2: 13) . You can also call Word of Hope at 888-217-8679.” Kay L. Meyer, director of development for Lutherans for Life SUNDAY SCHOOL TODAY: Today’s lesson is about Jacob and his family from Genesis 29: 1 - 30: 24. (See the first poster in the hallway.) The children will learn that through Jacob’s family God brought forth the Savior, Jesus Christ, who endured lies, deception, and the schemes of sinful humankind to work our salvation on the cross. Families can discuss how we sin when we lie or deceive others and how such actions show that we don’t trust God to provide and care for us. Ask your children if they have ever suffered because of someone’s lies. Talk about how Jesus suffered and died for us on the cross. Talk about the first commandment and how it relates to this Bible story. “A SUMMARY OF CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE”: Pastor Berndt will begin a new series of “A Summary of Christian Doctrine” classes next Sunday, Sept. 11th in room 109 at 9:20 am.
