News & Notes - May 8th, 2011Posted by Clint Poppe on 05/08/2011GOOD SHEPHERD NEWS & NOTES MAY 8, 2011 WELCOME TO GOOD SHEPHERD: Good Shepherd welcomes you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Large-print worship folders and printed liturgy are available from the ushers. Ushers will also help with hearing assist devices for your audio needs. The cry room is located at the northwest corner of the sanctuary for your convenience. If you have other questions or needs, please stop at the information center. We invite you to stay following the 8 am service for coffee and goodies followed by Sunday School and Bible study. May God richly bless our time together and please come again. BIBLE STUDY TODAY: Come to the fellowship hall today following the 8 am service for coffee, goodies, and the study of God’s Word. Pastor Poppe will be continuing to discuss the errors that divide our fellowship in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and the documents presented at the Association of Confessing Evangelical Lutheran Congregations in March of 2011. SUNDAY SCHOOL: Today the children learned that as Jesus came to the Ethiopian (Acts 8: 26-40), He comes to us in our weakness, for we cannot by our own reason or strength come to Him. In your family faith talks, discuss how the Holy Spirit calls, gathers, enlightens and sanctifies us, keeping us with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. LIFE MOMENT: Jesus knew of the necessity of suffering to enter into glory (Luke 24: 24). The glory of the resurrection flowed from the glory of the cross. Faith in a God who brings glory out of suffering brings hope to every situation in life. LIFELIGHT BIBLE STUDY: The Lifelight Bible studies will meet on Wednesday at 7:30 pm and on Thursday at 1 pm. The topic of this study is the New Testament books of Ephesians and Thessalonians. Everyone is welcome. VICARAGE ASSIGNMENT: At the vicarage assignment service on Monday, May 2nd, Benjamin Siebert from Midland, Michigan was assigned to serve his vicarage here at Good Shepherd in Lincoln. He is currently studying in Brazil. His vicarage will start later this summer. FLOWERS: The altar flowers today were provided by Don & Peg Olson in memory of Don’s mother, Julesie Olson and Peg’s father, Orville Holle. They are remembered in thanksgiving for their touch in the lives of Don and Peg. STEWARDSHIP MOMENT: I PETER 1: 17-25: On Good Friday Jesus shed His holy, precious blood and died for our sins. On that first Easter He rose from the grave to assure us of the forgiveness of sins and life everlasting in His name. Each new day we can make the sign of the cross and be reminded of our baptisms when the Holy Spirit created faith in our hearts. PRESCHOOL ACTIVITIES: Our chicks have hatched! The preschoolers have had so much fun watching the eggs open up and learning about our little chickens. One of our chicks was born with club feet, so we tried to help him with pipe cleaner orthopedics. This was somewhat successful . . . he is at least walking well! We call him Pirate because he looks like he has a peg leg. We are still working on names for the others. FUNDRAISING NIGHT: Texas Roadhouse will be hosting an everning fundraiser for Good Shepherd Lutheran School on Monday, May 16th from 4 pm to 10 pm. You must bring the flier insert to participate. Come to the Texas Roadhouse at 6301 Apples Way and have a meal and the restaurant will donate 10% of your total food purchase amount to Good Shepherd. So come and eat on May 16th, bring your copy of the flier, and help out our school and preschool. Thanks for your support.
